The Care Home Project

The Care Home Project was established several years ago in response to recognition by St Christopher’s that a significant number patients who were approaching the end of their lives in care homes were being unnecessarily admitted to hospitals to die; often against the wishes of the patients. The project trains and supports staff in care homes to provide end of life care with a view to enabling patients to have a choice as to where they die, and to reduce unnecessary admissions to hospital. WF’s previous funding of specialist research nurse, Julie Kinley, conducting the St. Christopher’s Care Home Project; reflected the desire by the WF to ensure that all communities of which the WF’s members are a part can, over time, benefit from its contribution to St. Christopher’s.
